You can find additional resources on-line to help with your application. Just Google "Form 1023EZ"
501c3 versus 501c4 (This page is about PLW's 501c3 application.) 501c4 non-profits CAN be heavily involved in supporting political candidates and political parties. 501c3 non-profits CANNOT be involved in candidate and party support in a major way. "A liitle" political involvement is okay. 501c3 non-profits can be fully involved on pro-life ISSUEs. For example, prior to November elections, PLW displays billboards and yard signs with the message "Vote Pro-Life." Key Point: The tax deductability for your donations applies retroactively from your date of application once the IRS approve 501c3 status. File your application soon. |
With the IRS mired in scandal over tea party and pro-life applications, this is an superb time to apply.
Pro-Life Waco submitted its application in August of 2005 and was approved in September of 2006. However, we used the Form 1023 long form which was the only form to use at the time. Here is the big deal? In 2014, the IRS came out with Form 1023EZ, which is just four relatively simple pages and is file on line. Warm Up for Application You will have to pay a fee when you mail your Form 1023EZ application. You must obtain an Employer Identification Number for your organization even if you do not have employees. This is used for tax forms you will have to fill out after you get 501c3 approval. You can get your EIN in many ways including online with the IRS. Before you apply you must incorporate in your state. Here is the Form 202 we submitted to the State of Texas. Also, before you apply to the IRS, you must have bylaws for your organization and form a board of directors. Monthly board meetings have been a big plus for PLW. Here are the bylaws for PLW as PDF and as DOC files. |
