In 2015, PLW in engaged in multiple “David versus Goliath” battles. The first was the "Battle of Target" in Central Texas.
In January of 2015, Target stores began marketing a line of products promoting and profiting from the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. This movie demeans women through portrayals of sexual bondage, sadomasochism, and more. The sex toys in the product line included handcuffs and a blindfold. Internet news articles called Target out for this betrayal of its family-friendly image. Pro-life Waco was the single organization in the nation to respond to Target with action. Through the Hometown Pro-Life Action group on Facebook, PLW called for phone and email complaints to Target at the national level and to local Department stores. Calls flooded into the national Target hotline 800-440-0680. John Pisciotta, PLW Director, personally visited with and complained to Waco Target managers on Feb. 13 about this betrayal of Target's family friendly image. He handed a Pro-Life Waco business card to a manager and then photographed the display. Pisciotta ordered signs for a protest against Waco Target on February 23. However, within two days, the Waco Target store removed the Fifty Shades of Grey display. Pisciotta then checked out other Target stores along Interstate 35. The Georgetown store carried the objectionable display and refused to remove it. PLW shifted to Georgetown Target as a demonstration site March 2. Four Wacoans and three friends from Round Rock delivered this demonstration at the street entrance to Target. (See slide show abort and video to the left of this page.) In about an hour, a Target manager came out and told us the display had been removed (which we confirmed). Additionally, Target stores in the entire region that includes Georgetown had been ordered to Fifty Shades of Grey promotions. News coverage of the victory included LifeSiteNews, Jane Chastain’s Politically Incorrect column on World News Daily, American Life League STOPP Report, SAYNSUMTHN blog and Armed for Battle radio (Jim Sedlak). In addition to the narrative on this page, these Internet stories were published on the challenge to Target that began in Waco: Jane Chastain's Politically Incorrect column in WorldNetDaily The Power of 1 15March2015 From American Life League: Victory in Waco: Fifty Shade of Grey sales display removed from Target 18February2015 From SAYNSUMTHN's BLOG from Carole Novielli Local Target removes 50 Shades of Grey display after Pro-Life group complains 18February2015 From LifeSiteNews Target department store cave in Waco: Dismantle Fifty Shade of Grey sales 19February2015 ___________________________________________________________________________________ You can see all the Pro-life Waco signs used in the "Battle of Target" by clicking below.
