We like to have broad-impact pro-life victories. However, little events with small victories can have a profound impact. In early June, I travel from Texas to Colorado and stopped at a Denny’s Restaurant in Raton, New Mexico. The reading material I brought inside included a small book from Catholic Answers entitled of Abortion: 20 Questions. (These can be purchases in bulk for $1 each). The gentleman who waited on me asked, “Where can I get a copy of that book?” I asked why he was interested. He said he had occasions in his high school to debate about the morality and legality of abortion. So, I gave him my copy of the book to his delight. I hope the books informed my waiter and helps him change hearts and minds.
Let's look for opportunities as individuals and in our pro-life groups to hit a “singles” along with “home runs.” And let’s reflect on the opportunities we often miss. I should wear pro-life T-shirts more often. I am quite negligent on wearing the “Precious Feet” pin. Such apparel generates conversations and opportunities for seeds planted and small pro-life victories.
A baseball team that hits a lot of singles frequent frequently wins the ball game.
